SmartCode 955 one-time access and the first-four-digits rule
SmartCode 955 supports permanent entry codes and codes that disappear after one use. Each code contains four to eight digits, but its first four digits must be unique. Changing only a final digit can therefore fail.
Choose the right access duration
Permanent access continues until the code is deleted. A one-time code is removed immediately after use. Choose according to whether the visitor needs one entry or repeated access; do not assume a second attempt will reuse an already consumed code.
Avoid a hidden code conflict
Two otherwise different codes can conflict when their first four digits match. If a new code is rejected, compare its prefix with existing codes privately rather than posting the code list in a troubleshooting message.
Program without risking a lockout
Kwikset instructs keeping the door open during setup. Follow the permanent or one-time branch of the linked instructions, including the programming credential when enabled. Check the success signal before handing access to the visitor.
