What a Kwikset factory reset erases before an ownership change
A Kwikset factory reset can remove codes, associations and settings, so it should be a deliberate ownership or troubleshooting step. Its effects differ by model. Plan the new setup before erasing an occupied home's existing access.
Halo, Aura and Halo Touch
Kwikset says these resets erase pairings, network settings, user associations, codes, event history and lock settings, including handing. A reset therefore affects more than the connection that originally appeared faulty.
Halo Select and Aura Reach
For these models, the notice describes deletion of codes and schedules, default settings, deactivation and an offline appearance in the app. The lock needs setup as a new device afterward. Do not interpret offline status as completed ownership transfer.
Finish the app-side cleanup
For Halo, Aura and Halo Touch, Kwikset instructs deleting the lock from the app home and forgetting its Bluetooth entry before reset. Codes or history can remain visible in the app until that home entry is removed.
Separate ownership transfer from a connection repair
Decide what you need to remove: an old owner, a failed connection or the complete configuration. Those goals do not automatically call for the same reset. Before an ownership handover, inventory keypad users, app access and physical keys. Use the factory-reset directions for the named model, then complete any required app-side removal and new-owner setup rather than assuming the button sequence finishes every step.
Restore access in a deliberate order
Arrange for an authorized person to remain at the property with working entry available. Record information needed for setup without retaining or sharing old users' private credentials. After reset and enrollment, test the new owner's access and the intended codes. Where the lock has a mechanical cylinder, discuss its key access separately; resetting electronics does not change the cut of an existing metal key.
