Removing an old phone from your Kwikset lock
Removing a paired phone requires the lock Owner account and a nearby Bluetooth connection. Kwikset does not allow removal of the phone currently being used. Identify the old device first so you remove the intended pairing.
Why the device list may be missing
The paired-device list becomes available within Bluetooth range of the specific lock. Standing at a different door or viewing an unrelated lock card can send you through the wrong settings. Select the intended lock before opening its device list.
Which access you are changing
In Lock Settings, open Paired Devices, select the old phone and confirm removal. Treat this as a device-pairing change. Separately review any access codes or keys the former user still possesses; removing one pairing is not a physical rekey.
When the change will not complete
Kwikset identifies an unsynchronized lock as a possible cause. Its troubleshooting includes reseating the batteries and reopening the app. Record the failure message if the device remains listed; repeated tapping does not establish that removal succeeded.
Distinguish the phone from the person using it
Write down which old device you want to remove and which current phone must remain usable. The paired-device list addresses a particular connection; also review whether a person has a separate app invitation, keypad code or physical key. Removing one old phone should not be treated as a complete household access change without checking those other routes.
Test from the phone you intend to keep
After following Kwikset's Owner-account procedure near the lock, confirm the retained device can still perform its intended functions. If the old entry remains or the control is unavailable, record the account role and model before contacting support. Do not jump to a factory reset merely because a phone-removal option is missing; that is a different operation with wider consequences.
