Kevo app support ended: does the deadbolt need replacing?
ASSA ABLOY ended its Kevo app and web-portal support on November 14, 2025. The notice says physical-key and key-fob operation were unaffected by that shutdown. Loss of supported app access therefore does not, by itself, prove a mechanical failure.

Which products the notice covers
The affected families include all Kevo generations, Kevo Convert, Kevo Plus and Baldwin Evolved. Confirm the installed product before applying an older app tutorial; instructions written before the support change may no longer describe the supported service.
Check the access you still have
Test existing physical keys or fobs before relying on them. The shutdown notice describes unaffected access methods, not a guarantee that an individual damaged lock or missing credential will work. Keep those separate issues clear when requesting help.
Decide what replacement must restore
If remote access is essential, compare the replacement's required features and door fit. The notice mentions a separate possible UniKey offering but does not endorse or control it; verify any such service directly before depending on it.
Inventory the access that still works
Check the physical key and any existing compatible fob rather than judging the deadbolt only from the unsupported app. Record which household members depended on phone access and which have another working method. Kwikset's shutdown notice distinguishes the app and portal from physical-key and fob operation; an individual lock can still have a separate battery, hardware or accessory fault requiring assessment.
Compare replacement by the features you need back
List the lost functions that matter: phone entry, shared credentials, off-site control or another specific routine. Evaluate a replacement's current support, setup requirements and backup access alongside the door preparation. Keep working entry available during any transition. Avoid planning around an expired promotion or assuming an unofficial app provides the same support and security arrangements as the discontinued service.
Before you call
- Identify the affected lock family.
- Test retained physical access.
- Confirm current service availability and replacement requirements.
Follow-up questions
Did the shutdown automatically rekey my Kevo cylinder?
No. The notice concerns app and portal support and says physical-key operation was unaffected. A change to mechanical key access is a separate service.
Do I have to replace Kevo if my physical key still works?
Decide based on the functions you need and the hardware's condition. The support shutdown alone does not establish that the mechanical deadbolt has failed.
