Locked out of your car in a parking garage
Give the locksmith the garage name, street entrance, level and parking-space location. Safe access and clearance can matter as much as the vehicle details. If a child is alone inside a locked car, call 911 immediately rather than waiting for routine dispatch.
Make the vehicle easy to locate
A street address may point to several entrances. Describe which ramp you used, the level, nearby signs and the vehicle's color. If your phone signal is weak, agree on a meeting point and callback plan before disconnecting.
Check access restrictions
Tell dispatch about entry tickets, locked gates, low clearance or access controlled by a building attendant. Ask the property operator for help arranging authorized entry when needed. Do not move into traffic or stand behind a vehicle ramp while waiting.
Clarify what is locked inside
Keys in the passenger area, keys in a trunk and a vehicle with no remaining keys can require different work. Say whether a spare exists nearby and whether a separate key-making service is needed. Ask for an arrival estimate based on the actual location.
Describe the route from the street to the car
A garage street address may lead to the wrong vehicle entrance. Add the correct ramp, floor label, nearby stairwell or elevator and any posted access restrictions. Check whether a person can meet the technician at the entrance without leaving anyone at risk. If mobile reception is poor, agree on the callback plan before going back underground and losing contact.
Distinguish a lockout from a missing-key job
Say whether the key is visible inside, locked in the trunk or missing altogether. Entry alone does not supply a new starting key. If a phone, ticket or parking payment method is also inside, mention it so the exit arrangements are understood. Keep emergency situations separate: when a child is alone in the locked car, call 911 and follow the dispatcher.
