Use California's official BSIS license-verification route and check that the business details match the provider you contacted. A familiar logo, advertisement or map listing is useful for identification, but it is not a substitute for checking current licensing information.
Match the business identity
Write down the company name and callback number from your booking. Ask for the licensing details needed to locate the business in the official lookup. Similar business names can cause confusion, so compare more than one identifying detail.
Confirm who arrives
Ask the arriving technician to identify the business they represent and the work they were dispatched to perform. If a different company or unexpected service appears, clarify the arrangement before starting. Keep the conversation focused on the approved scope and estimate.
Use official sources for current requirements
Licensing requirements and status can change. Follow the official BSIS guidance and verification links rather than relying on a copied badge or an old screenshot. For a particular issue, the regulator's current information should take precedence over a general website article.
Use identifiers that survive a name mismatch
Ask for the legal business name and license information, then compare those details with the official lookup and your booking record. A trading name or advertisement may look different from a legal entity name; ask the provider to explain the relationship. Check the result rather than assuming that a search-engine snippet, logo or review count establishes current authorization.
Keep the business record with your receipt
Record the provider you hired, the person who attended and the work approved. If something does not match the booking, pause for an explanation before allowing additional work.
