Aura keypad stays dark: check how it wakes first
On the original Aura Deadbolt, numerical buttons do not illuminate the keypad. Kwikset instructs using the one-touch locking button to wake it. A dark keypad after pressing a number alone does not establish a failed lock.
Try the intended wake action
Press the one-touch locking button and observe whether the keys illuminate. Keep this observation separate from whether an entry code works. The wake action and code recognition answer different troubleshooting questions.
Check settings and battery seating
Kwikset also lists the app's LED setting, battery charge, battery orientation and pack seating among its checks. If the symptom began after battery replacement, inspect that installation before assuming the keypad electronics failed.
Inspect the connection if necessary
The manufacturer directs attention to the cable joining the exterior keypad and interior assembly. Its connector needs correct alignment and full insertion. Use the model's installation guide, and request help if the connector is damaged or inaccessible.
Start with a reproducible wake test
For the original Aura, use the documented one-touch locking button and note whether the keypad illuminates. Keep the door open while evaluating unfamiliar controls. A keypad that wakes by the correct action but not by a numerical button may be behaving as designed. Record what you pressed and what happened before replacing batteries or changing programmed users.
Escalate with useful observations
If the correct wake action produces no response, follow the model's battery and connection checks. Report whether any lights or sounds occur and whether another authorized entry method still works. Keep cable inspection within the installation instructions rather than pulling on unknown connectors. A clear description of wake, keypad and motor behavior is more useful to support than saying only that the whole lock is dead.
